Abstract:

 For the problems of low efficiency, poor quality and short service life for automobile gear shaft produced by traditional forging process or casting process, according to the process requirements and the characteristics of gear shaft, two kinds of die forging processes, namely small flash die forging process and closed die forging process, were proposed. Then, two kinds of die forging processes for gear shaft were simulated by rigid plastic finite element method and software Deform-3D, and the material filling law, the stress distribution law, the change laws of forming force and die clamping force, and the forming quality of gear shaft forgings were comprehensively analyzed. The results show that both two kinds of die forging processes can form gear shaft forgings, but the quality of gear shaft forgings obtained by closed die forging process is better, and it is also more conducive to the improvement of die life. Finally, it is verified by the closed die forging test that all parts of the obtained gear shaft forgings are fully filled and meet the design requirements.
