Title:Optimization on forming parameters of self-piercing riveting for aluminum alloy sheet based on orthogonal test

Abstract:

For the self-piercing riveting of 5052-H32 aluminum alloy sheet with 1.5 mm thickness of two layers, the riveting speed, die depth, die width and boss height of die were selected as the influencing factors, and the under-cut was taken as the evaluation index. Then, the orthogonal test of four factors and three levels was established, and the self-piercing riveting processes with different combinations of process parameters were simulated by DEFORM-2D. Furthermore, the die depth has the significant influence on the under-cut by the variance analysis, and the influence order of process parameters on the under-cut is die depth, die width, riveting speed and boss height of die. According to the analysis results of orthogonal test, the optimum technological scheme of self-piercing riveting is obtained with riveting speed of 10 mm·s-1, die depth of 1.3 mm, die width of 8.5 mm and boss height of die of -0.1 mm, and the simulation value of under-cut is 0.486 mm. In addition, the optimization scheme was tested by riveting equipment. The experimental value of under-cut is 0.451 mm and the relative error between simulation value and experimental value  is 7.2% to verify the accuracy of numerical simulation.
