Abstract:

For the thin-walled hex nut, its forming process was simulated by finite element software DEFORM-3D in order to solve the material folding during practical production. Then, the cause of material folding was improper structure of mold according to by FE analysis results, and an improved structure for traditional floating mold was proposed. Furthermore, the simulated calculation was conducted again by the improved mold, and the problem of material folding was solved success
fully by comparative analysis forming process, material flow direction and strain distribution. Finally, an experiment was conducted by multi-position automatic cold forging lathe JNT-32B-5S, and the experimental results were consistent with the simulation results. Thus, the improved mold structure can forge the thin-walled parts by the comparative analysis of the finite element analysis technology and the trial test, which provides a new idea for the cold heading of thin-walled parts.
