Abstract:

 The research status of extrusion die on the semi-hollow Al-profiles was described, and its five die structures were analyzed including the integral flat die, the mosaic porthole die, the 

covering porthole die, the porthole die with a suspended cantilever and the cutting porthole die. Then, a new protective flow-guided porthole die structure for the semi-hollow Al-profiles was presented by a practical example, and the die structure named protective flow-guided extrusion die was introduced. Furthermore, the composition of structure and selection of parameters were analyzed in detail, mainly including the design of portholes, selection of extrusion machine, structure of  prothole bridge, selection of stress gap and bearing, and the method about how to check die strength was introduced. According to the extrusion result, the structures of traditional flat die and mosaic porthale die were compared to  the new one. The results show that the new structure is simpler and easier to process which can improve the strength and prolong the life of die.
