Abstract:

Forming types and characteristics of three typical sheet metal parts with boss as semi-piercing,extrusion and die forging were summarized,and taking the extrusion boss as the leading example, the differences between sheet metal extrusion and forward extrusion were analyzed. Then, some corresponding measures were put forward by analyzing the causes of four common defects as the top bulge,the bottom shrinkage hole,the root crack and the peripheral convex hull in the extrusion boss forming process. According to the influence factors of forming force of extrusion boss for sheet metal, an empirical formula for calculating forming force of extrusion boss for sheet metal was established, and the reference values of the bottom hole diameter at various relative heights of boss were presented during die dimensions design. Furthermore, it was pointed out that a larger diameter of concave hole meant a larger diameter of punch,which led to a greater forming force and affected the life of die.
