Abstract:

The section shape of profiled section ring is complicated and the metal flow in rolling process is uneven. Therefore, the ring is prone to produce defects such as warping and surface indentation. The closed rolling process of profiled section ring was studied by finite element software Forge. The forming mechanisms of warping and surface indentation in rolling process were obtained. The influences of blank section shape on warping and surface indentation were analyzed. The controlling strategies of defects were proposed based on the optimization of blank section shape. The results of study show that when the height of the straight wall of blank's inner hole is designed the same as that of the flange part of the blank and the inner surface in blank's neck is designed as a cone shape, the torque caused by rolling can be eliminated to decrease warping phenomenon significantly. As a result, the rolling process is smoothly operated. It is confirmed that outside surface inclination of 30 °in blank's neck leads to the minimum surface indentation so as to form profiled section ring fully. When the simulation is applied in practical production, the qualified products are obtained.
