Abstract:

The existence of banded structure with grade 3-4 in the raw material of steel forging resulted in internal holes and cracks along the direction of banded structure distribution of raw material in the actual production for steel ball products,which seriously affects the quality of the service life of the steel ball and ball mill. The raw material with banded structure defects was researched without changing the raw materials, the main direction of deformation was changed from the original axial deformation into the radial deformation,which was vertical to the direction of banded structure distribution. Simulation experiments show that in the process of forging, the radial deformation along the bar can avoid cracks resulted from the band structure, and effectively prevent it from the cracks and expand them continually after heat treatment with forging ratio increasing from 1.3 to 3.2. A more fine grain and better performance of the steel ball forging is obtained and it is verified by experiment through above method.
