Abstract:

According to the shape characters of a type of auto slide fork part, the closed die forging process was analyzed, and the main metal forming methods were compound deform with forward extrusion and upset. Based on the law of metal flowing, the excess material cavity was designed at the proper position. A three- dimensional finite element model  slide fork was created and the simulation of the metal flow was done, then the process analysis was validated. At last, the horizontal forging die was manufactured according to the simulation results and the quality forgings were obtained through process test. The results show that compared with open die forging, the horizontal forging at one step has advantages of less steps,lower material cost and good economic benefit.
