Abstract：

Cold heading steel is a kind of functional material used to manufacture constructional parts such as, bolts, nuts, screws, or pins etc., to which cold heading performance is an essential character. While being cold-headed, wire specimens crack with different performances, which can be concluded into four categories as surface cracks, slant cracks, longitudinal continuous cracks and longitudinal intermittent cracks. Formative mechanisms and originations of different cracks categories are analyzed accordingly in favor of quality control in production process.
