Abstract:

Different forming schemes and die devices were designed in order to precisely form TC11 titanium alloy impeller.The isothermal forging process of impeller was simulated using three-dimensional finite element code DEFORM-3D to study the influences of forming scheme,die structure and billet shape on the metal flow rule.Stress and strain distributions on the forging piece at different height reductions were presented.Load pressures using different forging schemes were also compared.The results show that components,such as the impeller with radial twisted blades can be precisely forged by the technology of isothermal forming.The die cavity is easily filled up under lower forging pressure using cylindrical billet with small diameter.Simulated result has a good agreement with experiment and can direct the practical manufacture effectively.
