Abstract:
A new mechanical effect has been found by theoretical analysis and experimental research, which is defined as Rigid Slide Tearing Effect. It may cause layer inner cracks in the centre of large free forgings during press hot forging processes. The mechanism and influences of the RST effect was studied. New forging criterions was developed to avoid the harms. Satisfactory results has been made to improve the quality of large forgings during past three years in practice.
